Reflecting on Charlie Kirk’s Legacy

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA and a leading conservative voice among America’s youth, was tragically shot and killed at Utah Valley University—struck while speaking, aged just 31. His death has sent shockwaves across the political and religious spectrum, prompting widespread condemnation of political violence. Some of us are deeply grieved, others of us are 'tut tutting' with approval saying 'well. he had it coming...'

A Life Marked by Bold Voice

Kirk built a platform on courage and controversy; courage to speak publicly, unapologetically and articulately on many issues that sparked controversy. The young would either rally to him or against him. Often he would let arguments challenge him but was not afraid to tear them down either. You had to be a brave (or stupid) individual to come against him but in my opinion Kirk reflected an openness rare in today’s heated political environment. When intelligence meets an even temperament the wider population will be blessed.

My wife and I started a church amongst many youth and young adults disenchanted by what mainstream Western civilisation offered them. Men and women like Kirk, the Knechtles and Jaquie Hill Perry provided alternatives from a Christian perspective and for that, I am so grateful.

A Moment of Loss, a Call to Reflection

Today, we stand at a painful intersection: We've lost a divisive and bold speaker, but we're losing something of far greater significance in this world. The west is losing the ability to talk, to argue and to disagree. Kirk's murder now invites us to a higher standard- whether friend or foe - to speak with conviction, but also to hear the claims of those who challenge. To build platforms—not to shut down debate, but to stretch it with humanity and respect. Do you pray? Please pray for his wife and two very small children. And pray for the Lord to bring us back to decent and civil society.
