Those of us who have walked with the Lord for many years often wish we could daily feel the
Lord’s hand in ours and that would help us along our often-frightful road. Perhaps if we could
hear the Lord say our name now and again, or maybe if we could feel His presence we could
be at peace and rest knowing He is with us. Sure, we may often see signs and wonders, but
they don’t provide the rest we need.
Most of us will, at some point, walk through tough times for long periods. We long to feel and see God, to have some continuous tangible evidence of God’s presence but it never comes. However there is a good reason for this: The Lord in His great goodness and love towards us keeps us from this so we wouldn't lust after it, measure ourselves by it, become fearful in its absence. Our life of faith must not be be replaced by sight. It's in human nature to live by sight, looking for signs, but the Lord in His great goodness weans us from this. He gives us armour, a shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit. (the sword being word of God, His word is a lamp unto our feet, and a light unto our path)
Eph 6:13 ... Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes,
you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the
breastplate of righteousness in place,
15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all
the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of
God.
How do we walk safely along our new journeys path as we are led by His Spirit? We put on
our armour and wear it, pick up our shield and hold up our sword as His Spirit leads us.
Every step, every day we take in our armour makes us stronger in faith, less vulnerable to
the world and our doubts and our fears. We defend ourselves against the roaring lion, our
enemy being Satan.
