The Mystery unfolding here in Hobart...

I don’t know. Maybe I’m reading too much into it… but it genuinely feels like something is happening down here in Hobart.
We’ve been praying for a long time that new churches would emerge bringing hope. Real hope. The kind of hope only Jesus gives.
And now… I’m looking around, and things are actually happening. Let me wax lyrical for a minute:
One family has made the bold, costly decision to relocate to the north of the city to plant a church.
Another couple has moved from overseas, burning with a desire to reach migrants and start something new.
Another family uprooted everything in South Australia to breathe life into a local Salvation Army church.
And just this week, I got a call from a Tassie guy wanting to plant in a part of the city where hardly anyone goes to church.
Is it just me… or is something going on?
You might say, “Why are you surprised? This is exactly what God does.” I think I’m just thrilled to actually see it. To watch prayers quietly and faithfully prayed… start to take shape in our area.
So if you’re the praying type—please pray.
Pray for these new works. Pray that we, as churches across Hobart would get shoulder-to-shoulder—encouraging, supporting, and strengthening one another. I’m looking forward to the BBQs, the coffees, the conversations… the chance to pour into these planters who are pouring themselves out for others.
City North Church was once a church plant too—right in the heart of Glenorchy. (We just turned five, by the way. Happy birthday us). What are we now? A church seedling? A slightly less fragile plant? I’ve got no idea. But for five years—along with many others around the world—we’ve been praying that God would change hearts here.
That new churches would become centres of vibrant faith, deep love, and real hope.
And maybe… just maybe… we’re starting to see it.
If this stirs something in you, don’t ignore it. Seriously—why not consider being part of it? Come and join us. Pack up. Sell stuff. Move if you need to.The harvest here is plentiful… but the workers? Still far too few.
That’s why I’m still praying to the Lord of the harvest. And writing poorly articulated blogs like this—hoping more workers might feel compelled to come join us.
In the meantime, take a look at what’s happening through REACH Australia—there are churches being planted and revitalised all over the country. This vid is just one example from Burwood, NSW.
Who knows what God will do next? And will it include you?
